10th annual Minnesota Cuban Film Festival
MSP Film Society's St. Anthony Main Theatre
7 pm, six Thursdays, February 21 - March 28, 2019

The Minnesota Cuba Committee is preparing for an important milestone, its tenth annual Cuban Film Festival. As in previous years, the festival is scheduled for six consecutive Thursdays, February 21 to March 28, in partnership with MSP Film Society and with ICAIC (Instituto Cubano de Arte e Industria Cinematograficos), the Cuban Film Institute. In addition, in 2019, Cuba celebrates two important anniversaries, 60 years of the Cuban Revolution and 60 years of ICAIC.

It's now been four years since relations between the United States and Cuba began to be restored. Unfortunately, those policies have been significantly reversed under President Trump and the U.S. economic blockade continues unabated. Until it ends, the film festival will have two goals: to offer Minnesotans a chance to learn about and appreciate Cuban film and culture, and to remind our supporters of the onerous burden that the blockade inflicts on the Cuban people.

The lineup of films this year will be outstanding.  New films under consideration includeGhost Town to Havana (a documentary about youth baseball in inner city Oakland and Havana), Sergio and Sergei (a Russian cosmonaut is stranded on the space station after the collapse of the Soviet Union), and Cubanas, Mujeres en Revolución (Cuban Women in Revolution).  A discussion will follow the first five showings and planning for a closing night party is in the works.

The film festival could not take place without the help of our generous sponsors.  If you have donated before we hope that you will do so again. If not, we hope that you might be in a position to add your financial support this year.
